Our CMMO Stéphanie likes to say that you’re either a bag girl or a shoe girl: I’m definitely a bag girl. Which is extremely fitting since I work for Bentley and I love all things vintage and second-hand, particularly handbags and purses.
I can spend, and often have, hours in the aisles of a friperie; feeling out the fabrics and checking the seams and cuts of garments that may just be enlisted for an encore , a chance at a second life in my closet. One of the best things about vintage shops is that you get to experiment with style — no matter how eccentric, no matter how outlandish — at a fraction of a price. I’m not so sure I would have paid full price for my beaded Coca Cola purse or bullet-proof Italian leather crossbody bag (that, by the way, has garnered compliments for the past 5 years).
Getting inspired by watching candid photos from the New York Fashion week is just as magical. The designers are not afraid to really push the envelope and the results are an almost whacky, definitely eye-catching, stream of shapes, cuts and materials. You might not afford a handbag with a $ 3 000 tag, or even want it, but you can certainly enjoy the almost coy playfulness on display. At least I do.
In hopes we are made from the same cloth, here are some spotted styles that put the play in playful.
